What is considered a strong connection to WA?
The Revealed Advisory Committee acknowledges that state borders don’t always reflect the way artists and communities move, work and live — particularly in regions such as the Western Desert, where artists often travel across the NPY Lands, Northern Territory and South Australia.
We want to respect these realities and reflect them in our application process. If you’re unsure whether you’re eligible, please include a short explanation in the application form or contact AACHWA directly.
Artwork criteria
The artwork/s:
- Must be the original work of the artist.
- If it includes cultural stories, symbols or knowledge that belong to an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community or language group, the artist/s must make sure they are following the right cultural protocols and have permission from the Custodians or are a Custodian themselves.
- Must not have been previously displayed in an exhibition, award, competition or festival prior to entry into the Revealed Exhibition.
- For established Aboriginal artists, it must explore new directions, medium/s and processes.
- Must have been completed within the last 12 months prior to submission.
- Must be available for the entire duration of the exhibition.

Artist/s applying with a work-in-progress or site-specific work:

- Concept is well considered, and
- Timeline is achievable.

Prior to the exhibition installation, the artist:
- Must remain in communication with AACHWA and the Revealed Curator about the works progress and development and provide any images or updates on request.
- Must provide images and details of the completed work for review by AACHWA and the Revealed Curator, prior to shipment (or installation for site-specific works). Works that are not completed or resolved to a satisfactory level may not be included in the exhibition. Their inclusion is at AACHWA’s CEO and the Revealed Curator’s discretion.
- Must ensure the final artwork is completed, shipped and arrives in Perth by late November 2025. Site-specific works need to be completed and installed in Perth prior to the exhibition opening, with the final installation date confirmed in discussion with the Revealed Curator.
Installation requirements
If your work is an installation, sculpture or has specific installation needs, please include the following details in your application:
- Consider how your work will be installed. Is it intended to be mounted on the wall? Suspended from height? Displayed on a plinth? Or resting on the gallery floor?
- Does it require specific lighting and/or audio/visual equipment?
Selling your artwork
As Revealed is an opportunity for artists to engage with a large art-buying audience, we highly recommend that artists make their work available for sale.
- Artists may submit an artwork that is not for sale (NFS), however, this is not recommended.
- If an artwork is NFS, this must be clearly indicated in the application form, along with a brief explanation.
- For example: I’m not selling this artwork as it holds personal significance, and I’d like to keep it for my own records and development.
Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property
Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP) recognises Indigenous peoples’ rights to maintain, control, protect and develop their cultural heritage, traditional knowledge and cultural expression.
While ICIP is currently not recognised under Australian law, a best-practice approach requires that it is acknowledged and respected. It may be necessary to gain permission to use stories, language and designs, even if in the public domain.
The Aboriginal Art Centre Hub of WA (AACHWA) acknowledges the existence of ICIP and that the ownership of ICIP remains with the Traditional Owners or Custodians. Unless otherwise agreed, AACHWA may not use any ICIP contained within this work for any other purpose.
Using any part of the images for any purpose that has not been authorised by the Custodians is a breach of the customary law of the community, and may also breach the Copyright Act 1968 (Cth).
Moral rights
The artist will always be recognised and attributed as the creator of the artwork.
The Aboriginal Art Centre Hub of WA (AACHWA) and our partners respect the artist’s moral right of integrity. We will reproduce the artwork in full and without any changes, except for where space is limited. In this instance, we will seek prior approval from the artist or art centre/representative
